Frequently asked questions about DOG TRAINING
These are some of the most common questions I've gotten through the years. Answering them is always a little tricky because I would answer every question with the following statement: Every Dog is different, every dog's environment is different, and every dog will go through changes in its lifetime. And then I would proceed into a personally tailored but long-winded proclamation that would make your eyes glaze over. I've done my best to simplify the answers, but because Every Dog is different, every dog's environment is different, and every dog will go through changes in its lifetime, I've expanded my answers to address some of the nuances that I feel you deserve to know.
Questions about Rates-registration-requirements

Can I bring a family member or additional dog to class? Family members are encouraged to attend class, however children under 11 will need a responsible adult accompanying them while you are working with your dog. The exception to this is Junior Handler classes and some AAI Therapy Dog sessions. ADDIONAL DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED without prior approval or adjustment to module structure.
How long does it take to see results? The classes are self-paced, so it truly depends on your motivation to get the job done. I can move some people through it in days, others need a few weeks to explore options before finding a method that works for their dog. Be realistic. it depends on the issue, your consistency, the behavior and so many other factors I cannot possibly cover this in one paragraph.
How old does my dog have to be to attend classes? All dogs will be assigned their appropriate age related training. The only requirements for all "off-site", (meaning anywhere else other than your home) puppies need to be up-to-date on vaccinations, and in good health.
Do you offer a guarantee or refund? No. When you purchase the module, everything you need to access to complete the training is yours for a lifetime. My research backed methods and experience have proven successful and solid. Your progression and success is entirely up to you
Questions about Methods and philosophy
What is "FORCE FREE" Dog Training? Simply put, I reinforce desired behaviors and ignore or re-direct unwanted behaviors. The foundation is open communication and understanding between two species and builds the relationship of the human-animal bond. For the most effective lifelong training, my methods make the dog *think* about their actions and consequences without fear. Although I am proficient in using electronic devices, however I strive to find alternate resolutions to build a proper set of skills your dog can use for its lifetime. The three categories most dog trainers put themselves in are: 1. Positive Only 2. Balanced 3. Commanded or "forced" obedience. The Rocky Mountain Companion Dogs falls in is 2. Balanced, but just barely. My scales tip WAY over to the positive reinforcers. Sometimes a dog needs to be told NO. Lets learn to do that without yelling or chastising the dog, and your life will suddenly be free of frustration. Hopefully I can write a bunch of stuff and use collapsible text to shorten the ocntent people have to sift through.
Do you use a clicker, food or toys? I will use whatever I have to to get your dog to reinforce desired behaviors. A clicker uses the theory of "MARK" training, and food reinforces it and toys are the time reinforcement at the end of the session. Sometimes, a threshold is the biggest reinforcer. Sometimes a car ride is the time reinforcer. Every dog is different, every dog s environment is different and every dog will go through changes in its lifetime.
Are your methods suitable for all ages and breeds? Yes. Some of the training is not suitable for some breeds, and some puppies have to wait until foundational training is solid until they can advance. But for every goal, I have a resolution.

Questions about facilities and equipment

Do you offer group classes? No. I offer MEMBER MEETUPS. People like group classes because it provides socialization and continuity. Trainers like group classes because we can fit $XX amount of earnings x 3 or even up to 8. Maybe it's the area of the country I'm in, maybe its because I'm pretty easy going, but I've never been able to have all my students attend class with consistency. MEMBER MEET UPS take place once a month either at a private fenced SNIFF SPOT or at varying places around the Evergreen CO area. When you sign up as a MEMBER of the website, you will receive an email at the beginning of the month with details. This gives a variety of folks the opportunity to get together and practiced what they've learned in a safe social setting.
What is the area you cover for in person sessions? Included in the class module are TWO in person or videomeet sessions. I can travel in a 15 mile radius of the downtown Evergreen CO area. Or more appropriately, no more than a half hours drive from my house. I CAN travel up to 2 hours, but travel expenses will be an additional fee. We will negotiate the schedule and fees before you register and pay for the class.

Where do you train? Indoor and outdoor spaces with Handicap access available. We currently use a training center that is available for hourly lease at 30596 Bryant drive, Evergreen, CO 80439. We also use a SNIFF SPOT at the same location for training outside and MEMBER MEETUPS.
What equipment, materials and academic materials do I need? I will supply you with a list of recommended equipment and materials you need depending on the training program you choose. Most classes have recommended or required reading. Be sure to visit our STORE, as I have access to gently used or wholesale equipment and reading materials. When an enrichment program is added to your training, I strive to only use materials that are free or available from recycled materials. We also have a recipe book if you want to make your own treats at home available in the STORE.
